Do I need to have my existing chimney lined?

It is unwise to assume that a chimney or flue works correctly simply because it is there. Testing may discover problems that are completely hidden from view like internal damage or blockage. Before you make any decisions relating to the purchase of a solid fuel or gas appliance, it is important to check the type of chimney or flue system you have available in your home. We advise that you consult House of Fires before you make any decisions prior to purchasing a solid fuel or gas appliance.

Do I need an engineer to install my electric fire or electric stove?

No. You just need to connect your electric stove or fire to the mains via the power socket.

Do you supply the building of a media wall for the integration of electric fires?

Yes we can offer bespoke custom build media walls for electric fire integration. We also supply the services of electricians, plasterers and tilers as required.

Will I need to get my chimney swept?

Yes. It ís always advisable to get an existing chimney or flue swept or checked before the installation of a new fire or fireplace. We advise you to contact a registered chimney sweep in your area.

Do gas fires need to be serviced annually?

Yes. All fires must be serviced annually by a registered gas safe engineer. We would be happy to make recommendations for the gas service. Please contact our shop for details.

hat sort of fuel can I burn in my stove?

Stoves are designed for wood burning, solid fuel burning or both and have a burning grate specifically designed for the fuel type. Those stoves than can burn both wood and solid fuel are usually known as multi fuel stoves and often have an external lever or control to adjust the burning grate for different fuel types.

What size stove do I need?

To achieve a relaxing room temperature of around 21ºC when the external air temperature is at freezing (0ºC) you will need approximately 1kW of heat output for every 14 cubic meters of space. Measure the length, width and height of your room and multiply the three figures together and divide by 14. We would always recommend you contact House of Fires for a site survey before making your decision.

I don’t have a chimney - can I still install a wood burning stove?

Yes. You can install a wood burning stove in properties without a chimney. You can have a twin-wall insulated flue pipe which allows rooms without chimneys to enjoy the benefits of a wood burning stove.
